When eight-year-old twins Moishy and Sury discover a strange, glowing rock in a dusty, vacant lot outside Tante Reizel's home on the Lower East Side of New York, little do they realize the adventure they are in for!
The rock is a special "time transporter," and before the children can blink, it carries them away and back in time, to the Lower East Side of the 1880s. There, Moishy and Sury meet the pulsing life of sweatshops and peddlers advertising their wares from pushcarts. They also meet Mindel, a Jewish immigrant girl who keeps getting fired from different jobs because she won’t work on Shabbos.
